All taxes in the virginia colony were not beneficial and unfair because the poor were getting taxed more than the rich, they caused hardships with the

1. People cannot afford trade if they are giving all their money to the government

-----a. I am stating the obvious here but, people can't have more money to spend on trade if their giving it all to the government less money to spend causes less trade

2. Peope were being taxed for things they didn't know of.

-----a. Because of this the people were less and less supportive and trusted of the government.

----------1. They thought that the government didn't care about them, they said they wanted to know what the taxes were going towards

-----c. Document #19- "That it has been custom of country courts at the laying of the levy to withdraw into a private room by which means the poor people not knowing for what they paid their levy did always [wonder] how their taxes could be so high.

3. The people were getting taxed more than the rich

-----a. Document #7-" Also we desire that every man may be taed according to the tracks of land they hold [thus, the rich would pay taxes, just as the poor did, and the rich would also pay a higher share than the poor.]

-----b. Document #19 - "The great quantities of tobacco was levied upon the poor inhabitants of this colony for the building of houses at james city which were not habitable by reason [of their not being] finished"
